New Digital Camera!

My previous camera didnt work so I needed to get a new one. I got one, almost 2 weeks into my stay here, and now I can finally start taking pictures.

This camera is really good! It is a Samsung (Korean brand) WB500, and it just went to market last month. Some factors played into my decision to get this camera: First, since this is Asia, technology tends to be cheaper than back in USA. Second, with the exchange rate really really in my favor (1500 won to 1 dollar, while one year ago it was 900 won to 1 dollar), I can basically afford a 50% better camera than I could a year ago. Third, Samsung is a Korean brand, so a Samsung product might be cheaper in its home market and, fourth, I have always been very impressed with anything made by Samsung. Also, the camera just looks good.

I do have 2 complaints about the WB500. I chose not to buy a memory card with it, since they were charging a ridiculous price for it -- $25 for 2gb, when the internet price is $8 -- so I cant take many pictures before the camera runs out of memory. So, that complaint is the limited memory. I did find a way around that problem, however: a friend, Misang, showed me how to reduce the picture from 10 megapixels to 1, 3, 5, or 7. Doing so allows the camera to store more pictures. The other thing I dont like is how the camera seems to have a problem focusing when I zoom in the picture really far. I say 'seems' because I think (hope) there may be a way around that problem, and I may yet figure it out.

Anyways, I am very happy with this camera, and now I can take pictures. No proper adventure should go unrecorded by camera.
